There are rumors that the actor from No Sudden Move has been hired to star upcoming Batgirl movie. It is said that he will play DC’s Firefly. Yes, he does dress like the insect in his name, but there is much more to know about this comic book bad guy. For example, he had an interesting job before he became a professional criminal.
Firefly Is a Movie From the Past Special Effects Expert
France Edward “Ed” Herron, a writer, and Dick Sprang, an artist, came up with the idea for Firefly. He first appeared in Detective Comics #184 in 1952, when his name was still Garfield Lynns. When his job making special effects for movies wasn’t going as well as he wanted, he decided to see if he could make money off of the rich in Gotham City. He thought that by using his best skill, which was pyrotechnics.
His first crime was making a fake fire in a movie theater so he could steal the things people left behind as they ran for safety. This, of course, got the attention of the city’s most trusted superhero team.
Batman and Robin Made a Funny Mistake That Led to Firefly’s Name
Even though Batman and Robin stopped Garfield Lynns from robbing the moviegoers in Gotham City with his impressive fire illusion, he was able to avoid being caught and probably getting a good beating from the Dark Knight himself for a pretty funny reason.
The two friends thought they saw the burning end of Lynns’ cigarette and started following it. When they got close enough, they realized they had been chasing a little firefly the whole time.

When Lynn found out that the superheroes had made a mistake, he saw it as a sign that he should give his criminal persona a real name and look. This was the first version of Firefly DC comics.
Firefly Was Remade as a Person Who Sets Fires in 1993
I call it “DC’s first version of Firefly” because the character we met in 1952 isn’t always the same character we see in many of the villain’s later appearances. DC Multiverse is known for something like this.
In fact, when he was reimagined in 1993 in Detective Comics, Garfield Lynns was still there in the winged suit. He was still a Hollywood special effects expert, but he was very successful, and it was his obsession with fire that drove him to a life of crime.
How Firefly and Batgirl Are Connected
It’s likely that Brendan Fraser will play a version of Garfield Lynns since this version has the most connections to Batgirl. He may not have many fights with the characters in Batgirl: the Year 2003 miniseries that told how Barbara Gordon became Batgirl. But he makes a big impression.
Barbara is ready to stop being a superhero in the miniseries. When Killer-Moth and Firefly work together to plan an attack on Gotham’s heroes, she gets involved again. Killer-Moth is the real bad guy in the story. Firefly goes bad and starts trying to get what he wants by using his ability to control fire. Not only does he go after the organized crime families in Gotham, but he also goes after the police. Barbara decides to become Batgirl because of his wild behavior.

Since then, Firefly has often been a part of another villain’s plan instead of the main bad guy. This makes him a good choice to be the main bad guy in Batgirl’s first solo movie. If Batgirl is expected to connect to the main storyline of DC’s movie universe, the fact that Brendan Fraser was cast in the role could mean that the villain is about to become a more significant part of the DCEU.
